Historical Note: Rienzi was the name of General Phil Sheridan’s horse.  Rienzi, a Morgan horse, 
was given to General Phil Sheridan in the town of Rienzi, Mississippi.  This horse became famous 
at the Battle of Cedar Mountain, Virginia and, was so well known that when it died, the remains 
were obtained by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., where it was mounted and put on 
display.
